Introduction To Percentages (%) With Examples

When we are talking about percentages what do we mean to say?

We are really saying "its Per 100"

First Figure
100 % means all  ==>  (100/ 100) x 100 = 100%
(100 Percent of Hundred)
Second Figure
50 % means Half  ==>  (50 / 100) x 100 = 50%
(50 Percent of Hundred)
Third Figure
25 % means Quarter  ==>  (25 / 100) x 100 = 25%
(25 Percent of Hundred)

Now move on with eaxamples now

Some Worked Examples

Example 1 :
Lets suppose we have to find 25% of 60?
(25 /100) x 60 = 15

Example 2 :
Lets Suppose we have to find 5% of 90?
(5/100) x 90 = 4.5

Example 3 :
Lets Suppose Find 15% of 300 bananas ?

15% ==> 15 /100
Therefore (15 /100) x 300 = 45

Example 4 :
Lets Suppose I Bought 200 Apples and out of that 10 were bad. What percent of apples were bad?
(10 / 200) x 100 ==> 5 %
So 5% of apples were bad.

Don't be confused at this step , because in previous examples you were given Percentage and you have to find number but in this example you have to find percentage and number is given :-)

Example 5 :
A Mobile is reduced 25 % in Price in a sale. The old Price was 2500 PKR. What is the new price?

First Find 25 % of 2500
25 % = 25 /100 And then  (25 / 100) x 2500 = 625
So the reduced Price is 625 Now
Take the reduction of 625 from original price ==> 2500 - 625 = 1875
So the price of mobile in sale is 1875.

Note We Can also express Percent as Decimal or fraction
A Half can be written as
As A Percentage ==> 50 %
As a Decimal ==> 0.5
As a fraction ==> 1/2
